Note: it is the responsibility of all pilots to ensure that they have up to date information on airspace they will be flying in or near by checking a current VTC. Assume that this page is out of date.
Albury Airport is surrounded by class C and class D airspace through which paragliders and hang gliders must not fly. There is also class E airspace, through which paragliders and hang gliders may fly. The rule that a transponder must be carried in class E airspace within 40 nautical miles of a class D tower (e.g. Albury) has been revoked. The downside is that a large chunk of class E airspace has been reclassified as class C, closing it to us. This new restricted airspace is an extension of the existing steps extending south of Albury airport, from the east side of Mount Buffalo to Wangaratta out to 45 nautical miles from Albury Airport starting at an altitude of 8500ft (2590m).
The ceiling above launch at The Pines remains at 4500ft (1370m).
In the Kiewa Valley, Tallangatta is within class D airspace with a 2500ft (760m) ceiling.
A description of all class C and class D airspace is available from Airservices Australia. A route file containing the coordinates of the airspace boundaries on the southern side of Albury is available here.
A picture would tell a thousand words, but Airservices Australia claim copyright over any depiction of airspace boundaries, so we can't put a map up on the web. Sorry.
