Bright Paragliding Open, 5 -12 Feb 2011
Internationally sanctioned paragliding competitions have been held annually in and around Bright for more than 15 years. The Bright Open attracts pilots from around Australia and overseas to compete in the favourable flying conditions of Victoria's alpine regions. Each day up to 100 pilots launch together to fly a pre-determined task around the Owens and Kiewa valleys, often racing to a finish at the Mystic Flight Park in Brigh. The tasks can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours depending on the weather of the day and distances of 60 to 100km are common. Spectators can best view the action from the world-class launch atop Mystic around mid-day or see the pilots landing (usually after 3pm) at the Mystic Flight Park on Morses Creek Road.

Bogong Cup - 16-22 Jan 2011
The Bogong Cup is known as a high level international cross country hang gliding event. This year we're expanding our focus to encourage the participation of Australian pilots who are not at the top of the national ladder and would like a real chance of winning something. The tasks we're planning to set will challenge you and still cater for the "guns". We intend to spice things up with some new task ideas designed to challenge and take you to new goals not used before.
We will be using two new formats - Grand Prix and Assigned Area Tasks. These formats are designed to encourage pilots to develop new strategies in their flying. Our scoring systems have been dramatically simplified to provide a greater level of understanding among non-competitors. We also hope to trial live tracking systems so that interested people anywhere can follow the progress of the pilots as they fly.
Sky High Paragliding Events
Melbourne's Sky High Paragliding Club regularly organises events at
Mystic, especially aimed at helping novice pilots improve their inland
flying skills. Come along to Not the Vic Open on the Melbourne Cup
long weekend, and finish the XC season with the Easter Fly-in.
